Day Trip to see Waterfalls

We've got a free day, so we drive to Hilo to see the waterfalls. We're staying on the Kona side of the island which is made up largely of volcanic rock. So all we see is black rock and beach. The other side of the island is supposed to be lush and green.

So, driving up Rt 19, we pass Cowboy Country. Even the signs are Cowboy.

Then we get to the Akaka Falls and Kahuna Falls. You walk down this path with the greenest plants.

And my favorite - the big-leaf plants.

You can't tell from this picture, but those palm leaves are at least 10 feet tall!
